Maggie Truelove, MS

Marriage and Family Therapist Associate
Couples Counseling | In-person & Online | $180 per 50-minute session

I believe all people deserve and rely on meaningful, stable, and loving relationships to thrive. The health of these relationships depends on mutual respect, trust, and an openness to learning. Conflict with partners is especially painful, as we long to enjoy the relationship(s) we spend the most time with and which hold the greatest expectation and promise of love, pleasure, and satisfaction. We long for our partner to see and empathize with our perspective, while their perspective often leaves us confused or distressed.

For many of us, the way in which we relate to and communicate our needs and emotions is compromised by the modeling we received in our families of origin, as well as from culture, trauma, and the compounding stressors of modern life (parenting, finances, householding, minority stress, and on and on). In couples therapy, we (re)build a felt sense of trust, respect, and care in the relationship. With the help of therapist’s supportive empathy and facilitation, we can develop vulnerable, effective communication and real relational and repair skills.

I use a highly research-backed model of couples therapy called Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). My job is to provide containment, understanding, and guidance to help you find your way back to each other (and to yourselves!), create new patterns of relating, unwind harmful dynamics, resolve issues, and develop the love and connection you desire.

In addition to EFT, I am trained in Somatic Experiencing (SE), mindfulness, and incorporate “parts work” (as in Internal Family Systems).

I am a parent, enjoy the arts and the outdoors, and have been married for close to two decades. I identify as queer and have significant experience working with LGBTQ clients.

Maggie is available in-person and online for couples and individual therapy for $180 per 50-minute session
