Angela Buckwalter, MA

Marriage and Family Therapist Associate
Couples Counseling | In-person & Online | $180 per 50-minute session

Hello! I’m glad you’re here.

A little about myself:

I’m a queer, neurodivergent Marriage and Family Therapist Associate with lived experience and more than twenty years of combined experience in social work and counseling. I am passionate about supporting others in finding healing within themselves and their relationships through exploring personal patterns, stories, and connections.

My approach is inclusive and grounded in the belief that everyone deserves connection, healing, and peace within themselves and their relationships. I view symptoms and challenges through the lens of attachment. Approaching these experiences with curiosity and compassion creates space to explore how our bodies, minds, and hearts are often not working against us, but instead are attempting to meet a need—whether that is a need for protection, soothing, connection, or something else entirely. The modalities I use most often are Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.

I believe that deep healing can come from being seen, heard, and supported without judgment. Everyone has a unique journey and a unique story, which means support should be equally unique. I work alongside you, bringing skills and expertise to support your specific needs through compassionate, judgment-free inquiry. I utilize a trauma-informed, systemic, and intersectional approach. I have extensive experience working with and supporting LGBTQIA2S+, neurodiverse, polyamorous, and ethically non-monogamous individuals and relationships. I am kink and sex work friendly.

I find that there is so much freedom, autonomy, connection, growth, and healing that can come from giving yourself permission to truly be yourself without shame or judgment in relationships—with both others and yourself. When this happens, relationships can move beyond limiting expectations and become places where vulnerability is safe, growth is nurtured, and authenticity is celebrated. Relationship ruptures and conflict can feel deeply painful and often activate personal wounds. In the midst of that pain, it can be difficult to hold on to hope. I have had the privilege of supporting and guiding people through the process of repair and growth after conflict and rupture, helping them discover deeper connections while honoring both themselves and their relationships.

When I’m not working, you can usually find me spending time with my kids (who are technically young adults) and husband, making weird art, hiking, swimming, wading through water in search of cool rocks, or playing with my husky/malamute and two chihuahuas.
